LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The PGA of America is inviting people to register for job openings ahead of its 2024 tournaments, including the PGA Championship in May at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville.
In a news release Tuesday, the PGA said it's inviting local talent from "underrepresented backgrounds" to register and be considered for new positions. Opportunities include part-time and full-time temporary work at Valhalla, including:
- Security staffing
- Hospitality
- General labor
- Transportation
- Logistics
- Carpentry
- Construction
- Janitorial services
"We are committed to illuminating the wide variety of pathways to a career within the $102 billion golf industry," Sandy Cross, chief people officer for the PGA of America, said in a news release Tuesday. "Through PGA JobMatch, we leverage our spectator championships to generate local employment opportunities for emerging talent from a variety of backgrounds, identities and abilities, who want to discover what a career in the business of golf could look like."
The PGA returns to Louisville with its first major spectator event at Valhalla since 2014. The course has undergone significant changes and so has the PGA Tour. It's also the first major championship at Valhalla since the course came under local ownership in June 2022.
The 486-acre property sits off Shelbyville Road, just east of Interstate 265. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, it opened in 1986 and remains the No. 1-ranked course in Kentucky, according to Golf Digest. Valhalla has also played host to many marquee events that drew national and international attention to Louisville:
- 1996 PGA Championship: Won by Mark Brooks
- 2000 PGA Championship: Won by Tiger Woods
- 2004 Senior PGA Championship: Won by Hale Irwin
- 2008 Ryder Cup: Won by the United States
- 2011 Senior PGA Championship: Won by Tom Watson
- 2014 PGA Championship: Won by Rory McIlroy
