LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville remembered the lives of fallen officers who gave their lives in the line of duty.
On Wednesday, police officers and city leaders gathered at Jefferson Square Park in downtown Louisville for the annual Louisville-Jefferson County Fallen Officer Memorial. The service was led by Louisville Metro Department of Corrections FOP Lodge No. 77 and eight lodges of the Fraternal Order of Police in Jefferson County.
The event served as a time to remember and honor the law enforcement officers whose names are etched onto the memorial at Jefferson Square Park.
"Those that we honor today went to work every day to protect and serve almost perfect strangers from what most would only encounter in their wildest dreams and did so with the heart and commitment of selfless service," said Rodger Ledrick, FOP Lodge 77 president.
The Memorial Service is held in conjunction with the National Peace Officer's Memorial, which is on May 15.
