LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A former southern Indiana police chief is running for Clark County Sheriff as a Democrat.

Former Jeffersonville Police Chief Tim Deeringer filed for candidacy, according to a news release from his campaign.

Deeringer "plans to focus on bringing long overdue transparency, accountability, vision and change to the sheriff's office."

A nearly 30-year veteran of the Jeffersonville Police Department, Deeringer has experience as a chief of police, a SWAT officer, detective, field training officer and shift commander.

"I will work to bring trust, transparency and accountability to the Clark County Sheriff's Office for the people of Clark County to create lasting and positive change," Deeringer's campaign website states.

Deeringer retired from JPD in 2019 as a lieutenant after 28 years with the department.

Former Jeffersonville Police Chief Capt. Kenny Kavanaugh, a 32-year police veteran, announced his candidacy as a Republican on Friday.
