LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- During his State of the City address Tuesday, Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore announced he would not be seeking reelection.
Moore, a Republican, was elected mayor of the southern Indiana city in November 2011 and is currently serving his fourth consecutive term.
He said Tuesday he wants to spend more time with his growing family, especially his grandchildren.
"This job can be a lot of fun, but this job can be a lot of stress and I just, you know, this will be a 16-year presence, and I think it's time for somebody else," Moore said. "I mean, we have accomplished a lot. We've got a lot to be proud of. But I think it's time for maybe the next generation to step in and let's see where they take us."
In Tuesday's address, Moore touted years of positive economic change for the city since he took office, including the transformation of downtown, Veterans Parkway and 10th Street.
He also briefly touched on the highly-anticipated $1 billion redevelopment of the Jeffboat site. Moore said he wished the project was further along than it is but expressed confidence in the developers.
Jeffersonville's next mayoral election will be held in 2027.
