LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Kentucky's auditor testified in front of Congress on Wednesday about fraud prevention.

Allison Ball spoke to lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Government Operations.

Ball said she's uncovered more than $1 billion of waste, fraud and abuse in federally-funded programs in Kentucky.

Recent audits found Kentucky overcharged $33 million in taxes, had $170 million in unreported Medicaid spending and missed nursing home inspections.

"This is a non-partisan issue," Ball said. "If we take waste, fraud and abuse seriously, we can ensure that every family gets needed assistance without breaking the backs of American taxpayers."

Ball discussed possible solutions like using artificial intelligence to help speed up the audit process. She said AI would allow her office to tackle more issues than ever before.
