LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear will be traveling internationally next week, all in an effort to bring more jobs to the Commonwealth.
Beshear will travel to Japan and the Republic of Korea to meet with leaders of companies already operating in Kentucky, and businesses looking to invest in the U.S.
The governor will be accompanied by first lady Britainy Beshear, Cabinet for Economic Development Secretary Jeff Noel, Transportation Cabinet Secretary Jim Gray and other members of Kentucky's executive branch.
While in Korea, Beshear and Gray will meet with the National Police Agency to sign a Driver's License Reciprocity Agreement, which will allow Korean employees coming to the U.S. for an extended period of time access to effective transportation to their jobs.
“There is no better place to do business in the United States than right here in Kentucky, and this visit will allow us to share that message directly with business leaders in Japan and Korea,” Beshear said in a news release on Friday. “We look forward to meeting with existing employers and developing new relationships that will bring good jobs to the commonwealth.”
Kentucky has 540 internationally-owned companies that employ more than 117,000 Kentuckians statewide. Of that, 200 Japanese-owned companies operate in Kentucky, employing 47,000 people. There are also seven Korean-owned companies employing 1,200 Kentuckians.
Since taking office, Beshear's administration has brought 88 projects by Asian-based companies, equating to a $13 billion investment into the Commonwealth and creating 13,000 new jobs.
