LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Republican Mike Braun has been elected as Indiana's newest governor.
The Associated Press called the race around 7 p.m. Tuesday. Live results show as of 11:25 p.m. Braun had secured 54.4% of the vote over Democratic nominee, Jennifer McCormick.
"I can guarantee you, I know our state has four corners. I come from one of them. I'm going to make sure that all of us as Hoosiers prosper," said Braun. "... and we're going to take Indiana to places we've never seen before."
Republican Mike Braun has been elected as Indiana's newest governor.
Eric Holcomb was not eligible to run for a third term after he was elected as governor in 2016 and 2020.
Braun became the Republican nominee in Indiana after he was elected to the US Senate in 2018 and won by 56,000 votes. He was in that position for six years.
"I'm so anxious to hit the ground running," Braun said Tuesday night. "I promised all of you when I ran for senate, I'd be the most accessible senator we've ever had, I'm going to be the most entrepreneurial senator we ever had, and we've proven that in just six years. Imagine what you can do when you set the agenda, you get along with the legislature that believes in freedom and opportunity, faith, family and community."
McCormick was the last Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction and switched to the Democratic Party in 2021. She also was a teacher and principal before.
Donald Rainwater was named the Libertarian candidate after beating out Rhonda Greene. He is a software engineer and project manager.
