LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Students and staff at the Prosser Education Center in New Albany were evacuated early Thursday after a small fire in the school's air filtration system.
That's according to a news release from New Albany-Floyd County Schools Superintendent Dr. Travis G. Madison.
No injuries were reported.
The school, located at 4202 Charlestown Road, canceled the remainder of morning classes as well as afternoon classes. Madison said in the release that parents and students who need to return to the school to get belongings left behind during the evacuation can pick them up from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday night.
The release said the fire was quickly contained and extinguished, but some parts of the building still smell like smoke and a have a "smoldering odor." The HVAC systems are up and running to remove the smoke and odor from the affected areas.
Officials are surveying the school to ensure air quality is acceptable before deciding whether to hold classes on Friday. Students scheduled to take part in Skills Competitions offsite Friday should report as usual and meet in the front of the school, unless they hear otherwise.
