LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A puppy is recovering after she was found badly beaten and abandoned inside a recycling bin in Louisville.
According to a post from the Arrow Fund, two boys were walking along South Jackson Street around 5:30 p.m. Sunday when they heard a dog crying nearby.
After searching the area, the boys traced the sound to a recycling bin, where they found a small black and tan puppy inside.
The Louisville animal rescue said the puppy, now named Singer, was starving and had several serious injuries.
In an update Tuesday, The Arrow Fund said medical experts believe Singer's injuries are consistent with "stomping and strangulation." She has a skull fracture, multiple fractures in both front legs and bleeding inside one of her eyes.
Since Singer is so young and the fractures are close to her growth plates, The Arrow Fund said surgery is risky right now.
For the next month, she'll get weekly splint changes while doctors give her legs time to heal. The rescue said she could still need surgery later.
The Arrow Fund and Louisville Metro Police are asking anyone who lives near South Jackson Street to check doorbell or security camera footage from Sunday afternoon and evening for anything that could help them determine how Singer ended up in the recycling bin.
"We need the community's help," the Arrow Fund wrote. "...Even something that seems insignificant could help determine how this puppy ended up there."
Singer will remain in foster care while she receives treatment, the organization said.
