LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Horse racing, bourbon and music will come together for a new music festival coming to Keeneland.
The Lexington racetrack announced its first Railbird Festival, which is planned on the grounds of Keeneland on Aug. 10-11.
Names of the music artists and bands will be announced soon, but promoters say the music will be a mix of rock, folk, bluegrass, Americana and more for the event being billed as "Music, Bourbon and Equine."
Keenenland officials promise a weekend full of good music, art and bourbon in a one-of-a-kind setting. The festival will take place in The Meadow and on The Hill surrounding the track, rather than inside the gates, paddock or infield.
The name of the festival is a nod to horse racing. Racetrack regulars that stay close to the action along the rail are affectionately called "railbirds."
"I tell people the key ingredient to any festival is an amazing setting," said Ashley Capps, president of AC Entertainment. "And I don't think it gets more amazing than this."
AC Entertainment is the same group that puts on the Bonnaroo and Forecastle festivals. Tickets are not yet on sale for the Railbird Festival, but VIP experiences will be part of the offerings.

Bourbon will play a key role in the festival with a number of distillers promised to be on-site with special offerings. The festival also said artisanal and local foods will be featured along with craft beers.
But just who is performing is expected to be released in a couple of weeks.
"We're going to start out for the first year doing a two-day festival," Capps said. "There will be multiple stages. The music will be Bluegrass of course, but also Americana, rock, folk."
Tickets are not yet on sale, but organizers are hoping this event boosts tourism.
"Chicago is a great feeder market," said Mary Quinn Ramer with Visit Lex. "It's a great concert market. So we'll be looking at our target markets, and we'll be getting the word out."
Organizers think there are enough music fans to supports so many music festivals. Capps said he hopes fans will go to both Forecastle and Railbird.
"The festivals aren't going to be the same. They're not going to look alike. They're not going to be the same type of experience," he said. "We're talking about amazing artists, but we're not talking about mega headliners at this particular point, because our scope is to keep the festival on the boutique level at about 10,000 people per day. Because for us, the music is a key ingredient to the experience, but it's not the only ingredient."
Several nonprofits will benefit from the festival, including the Central Music Academy, Central Kentucky Riding for Hope, Fayette Alliance and Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance.
"A Railbird is horse racing enthusiast known for sticking close to the action, hanging on the rail as each contender comes barreling down the track," a statement on the Railbird website reads. "This summer, the term will take on added meaning with a brand new music festival in Lexington, KY. 2 days. Multiple stages. World class artists. All at the historic grounds of Keeneland. Railbird will celebrate the unrivaled culture and traditions of the Bluegrass State at the historic Keeneland Racecourse. A Kentucky experience, through and through, Railbird will be a truly one-of-a-kind event. The festival will be woven into the course grounds to create an unforgettable and immersive weekend centered around music, bourbon, equine culture and Lexington tradition."
Organizers say while this event will be smaller for the first year, there is plenty of space and room to grow to make the event bigger later.
