LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The American Red Cross is encouraging people to donate blood this summer.
The Red Cross held the fifth annual Stars and Stripes holiday blood drive on Tuesday at the UAW Local 862 Union Hall. Pam Greer-Ullrich, account manager at American Red Cross, said the goal was to collect 140 units of blood on Tuesday, July 2 and another 125 units on Wednesday, July 3.
"We don't ever want blood to go to waste, we'll send it where it is needed," Greer-Ullrich said. "They're helping their local people because the blood comes back here first."
Donors of all blood types, especially those with type B negative or O negative blood are needed. To encourage blood donations, the Red Cross is offering a chicken dinner, a free ticket to U.S. Cedar Fair parks including Kings Island, and more.
