LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A local theater is celebrating its grand reopening and community dedication.

The Russell Theater at New Directions on South 17th Street has been operating for almost seven years, with local artists as the focus of the space.

There have been 25 shows, 250 artists have been through their doors and countless events have been put on, but the theater has never had an official opening.

It has since been renovated and updated with the future in mind.

"This theater is more than a building. It is a home, a beacon, and a platform for stories that deserve to be heard," Rush Trowel, with Faith Works Performing Arts, said. "As we celebrate today, we also cast our eyes on tomorrow with a vision of new facilities as we serve generations to come."

The Russell Theater at New Directions is now entering its 11th season.
