LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Sacred Heart Academy celebrated a high school basketball dynasty in Louisville on Monday.
Sacred Heart won its fifth straight KHSAA state championship earlier this month. The Valkyries defeated George Rogers Clark in the state final in Lexington.
After the Cardinals led by four points at halftime, Sacred Heart rallied in the second half. The Louisville private school scored the final eight points of the game to win, 65-60 becoming the first team in Kentucky history to win five consecutive basketball state titles.
Zakiyah Johnson, who won 2025 Miss Kentucky Basketball, has signed to play college basketball at LSU next year. Johnson averaged 21.2 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.
"We never folded, we never got startled or rattled and that's the key to winning," Johnson said. "You can't let up."
Johnson's fellow senior Morgan Frey averaged 7.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Sophomore Amirah Jordan scored 13.0 points per game while junior Brianna Wilkins averaged 11.7 points.
Sacred Heart coach Donna Moir has been the school's basketball coach since 1991. She's been a part of all nine of the school's state championships, including one as a player in 1976 and eight others as a coach.
