LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Officials in Oldham and Carroll counties said several tornado warning sirens are currently out of service after recent testing revealed issues.
Oldham County's Emergency Management Agency posted on social media Wednesday morning warning residents they shouldn't rely on their storm sirens as inclement weather rolls through Kentucky.
Routine testing Tuesday revealed a malfunction in the activation of the sirens in southern parts of the county, confirmed by Oldham County EMA Director Zach Wilt.
Residents are encouraged to enable emergency alerts through Smart911 to keep up with weather updated while technicians work to resolve the problem.
Carroll County's EMA also confirmed on social media its storm sirens are out of service "for an extended period of time."
They recommended residents download the HyperReach app to stay informed on the weather status.
Neither county said when their sirens would be up and running again.
