LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A southern Indiana housing complex that went up in flames in March will soon be leveled.

Parkview Tower was about two-thirds occupied when the fire broke out in the evening hours of March 22. Emergency responders rushed to evacuate residents as thick smoke spread through the floors.

Twenty-three people were sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation, and 50 people were displaced. The fire was contained, but the building was deemed uninhabitable.

The New Albany Housing Authority approved the demolition plan for Parkview Tower. It will cost an estimated $1.3 million to complete the demolition.

The nine-story tower was built in 1964.

Demolition is expected to be finished by May 2026.
