LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB/WAVE) — Residents in the Memphis, Indiana, area continued cleaning up Monday after a tornado swept through the community Friday night, leaving behind damaged homes, downed trees and debris.
In the Harmony Woods neighborhood, Ron Downs is sorting through the aftermath after a large maple tree fell into his backyard, damaging his fence and roof.
Downs estimates the storm caused about $30,000 in property damage.
"It was what they call a spin-up tornado," Downs said. "No hook shows on the radar. It just all of a sudden produces, and there's nothing you can do about it. No warning, no nothing."
Downs said the tornado had already passed by the time he looked out his sliding glass door.
The cleanup also brought back memories of another destructive storm. Downs said he previously lived about five miles from the tornado that devastated Henryville in 2012, making this the second time he's had to recover from tornado damage.
