LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Thousands of kids in Louisville felt the love at Norton Children's this Valentine's Day.

Hospital staff delivered more than 2,600 cards and more than 1,700 stuffed animals to patients on Wednesday.

The hospital system asked the community to send cards over the past few weeks.

Officials said some of the card and stuffed animal donations came from across the nation. Norton said the stuffed animals were purchased by donors through SendAFriend. Ten percent of the proceeds will be donated to the Norton Children's Hospital Foundation in honor of American Heart Month to honor patients at the hospital's Heart Institute, Norton said.

Last year, Norton Children’s received 10,600 Valentines and more than 1,700 stuffed animals. Donations came in from across Kentucky, plus 46 other states and Canada.

Wednesday's Valentine distribution marked the hospital's fourth year spreading love to patients through the donations.
