BARDSTOWN, Ky. (WDRB) -- Stolen guns found near a playground in Bardstown helped police charge a suspect with a recent burglary. Police say they're confident they've got the right suspect and that there could be several more people involved.
Capt. Tom Roby with Bardstown Police says the Bardstown area had a lot of break-ins over the holidays.
Roby says everything from money and electronics to guns have been stolen, mainly from the Salem Hills subdivision.
20-year-old Quacy Sheckles has been charged with at least one of them.
"There's been a rash of thefts from vehicles and a rash of burglaries that occurred from November to the early part of December," said Capt. Roby.
Sheckles was arrested on December 16th for having a stolen handgun and drugs at his house.
Then on December 28th, police found two rifles and two shotguns by a utility pole on a playground near his home on Robin Drive.
Police believe Sheckles committed a burglary on November 21st where he stole the guns and a television.
He remains in the Nelson County Jail but police don't think he's been working alone.
"They are looking at several other persons of interest," Capt. Roby told WDRB.
Roby couldn't say who they're looking for or just how many people but he says if you or someone you know was involved, now is the time to come forward.
"As long as we're still reaching out to the community and we're still asking for more information, and people decide to cooperate, now is the time to cooperate with the law enforcement," he said.
Detectives are working with authorities to pursue federal charges against Sheckles, which would mean a longer prison sentence.
"Armed criminals need to be sent away for a long time," said Capt. Roby.
