MyTARC electronic payment card

New MyTARC electronic cards are expected to replace 20-year-old boxes that only accepted cash and paper tickets.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Officials are launching a new card-based system they say will help make riding catching and riding a TARC bus a whole lot easier.

The new system lets customers pay with a simple tap of an electronic card, replacing the 20-year-old boxes that only accepted cash and paper tickets.

Customers with current tickets and passes can trade those in for a new MyTARC card of equal electronic value. The cards are available at Union Station beginning Monday, Dec. 3. For 30 days, customers who load at least $5 on the card get one for free.

However, riders won't be able to use the cards until Jan. 7, so they are asked to ensure that they have enough paper tickets to get them through that launch date.
