LMPD spokesperson Aaron Ellis said a vehicle went into the river at the Greenwood Boat Ramp in southwest Jefferson County around 6:20 p.m. Ellis said the vehicle went into the water after the driver suffered a medical emergency.

Three teenagers who were fishing nearby saw the vehicle go into the water, and two of them jumped into the river. They swam to the vehicle and helped get the driver out, Ellis said. The teens also tied a rope to a tree to prevent the vehicle from floating away.

"The quick actions from these young men help turn a potential tragic situation into a positive outcome," Ellis said.

Police said other people around the boat ramp helped as well.

The driver of vehicle was alert and conscious while being taken to the hospital for injuries that are believed to be non-life-threatening.

Police said no other vehicles were involved in the incident.
