LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A historic Ten Commandments monument is back on display at the Kentucky State Capitol after decades in storage.
The granite monument now stands in Monument Park on the New State Capitol grounds. It was originally donated to the commonwealth in 1971 by the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Lawmakers approved the monument's return during the 2025 legislative session through House Joint Resolution 15. Supporters said the monument reflects Kentucky's historical and cultural heritage.
"I am pleased to see this historic Ten Commandments monument returned to its rightful place," Rep. Shane Baker, the resolution's sponsor, said in a news release Wednesday.
Baker said the Ten Commandments hold recognized historical significance in both Kentucky and the nation.
The monument had been removed from the Capitol grounds in the 1980s during construction and remained in storage until now. State officials said its new placement allows visitors to view the monument while preserving it for the future.
