LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Texas man pleaded not guilty to charges that he made violent threats against University of Louisville football coach Jeff Brohm, members of Brohm's family and coaching staff, and quarterback Miller Moss.
Brian S. Mandel, 38, of Corpus Christi, Texas, was arraigned Tuesday in Jefferson Circuit Court, where he entered the not guilty plea. A judge set his bond at $100,000 cash and ordered that Mandel have no contact with the alleged victims, consume no alcohol and refrain from gambling.
Mandel was indicted earlier this week on six counts of second-degree terroristic threatening and one count of attempted theft by extortion of more than $10,000. The indictment alleges Mandel made the threats Nov. 8-9, the weekend Louisville lost to California in overtime at L&N Stadium.
According to the indictment, Mandel is accused of threatening to inflict bodily harm on Brohm, his wife and family, offensive coordinator Brian Brohm and Moss. Prosecutors also allege Mandel tried to extort Moss by threatening people "associated with him" in an effort to obtain property worth $10,000 or more.
The University of Louisville released a statement at the time of the indictment, saying, in part:
"We commend law enforcement for their swift and decisive action in addressing this matter. Threats of violence have no place in our community or in sports … Our student-athletes and coaches deserve to compete, learn, and grow without fear."
Mandel's next court date is a pretrial conference scheduled for Feb. 17, 2026.
