LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Texas man was indicted in Jefferson County Monday for allegedly making threats to University of Louisville head football coach Jeff Brohm, members of his family, offensive coordinator Brian Brohm and quarterback Miller Moss.
Brian S. Mandel, 38, of Corpus Christi, Texas, faces six counts of second-degree terroristic threatening and one count of attempted theft by extortion of more than $10,000, according to court documents.
A copy of the indictment said the threats were allegedly made Nov. 8-9, the weekend Louisville lost to California in overtime at L&N Stadium in Louisville.
The indictment alleges Mandel intentionally threatened violence against Brohm, his wife, members of his family, Brian Brohm and Moss.
The document also indicates the alleged extortion attempt involved Mandel trying to "obtain property of a value of $10,000 or more" from Moss "by threatening to inflict bodily injury" on him and "individuals associated with" him.
A UofL police officer is listed as the complaining witness in the case, but the indictment doesn't spell out a motive or provide a detailed narrative of what investigators said occurred.
"We commend law enforcement for their swift and decisive action in addressing this matter," Rocco Gasparro, director of Media Relations for UofL Athletics, said in a statement. "Threats of violence have no place in our community or in sports, and we will continue to work closely with authorities to ensure a safe environment for all."
While Mandel has been indicted, he has not yet been arrested. A Jefferson Circuit Court judge signed an arrest warrant for Mandel and set his bond at $100,000 cash. Mandel is scheduled to be arraigned in Jefferson Circuit Court Nov. 17, though that could change depending on when he is taken into custody.
"The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community remain our highest priority," Gasparro said. "Our student athletes and coaches deserve to compete, learn, and grow without fear. We are committed to supporting them and reinforcing the values of respect, integrity, and accountability that define our program."
