LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A central Kentucky college student who stopped for a quick scratch-off during her lunch break was left with a big surprise.
Bella Sears, who attends college in Lexington, bought a Mega Super Hot 7's scratch-off at the Murphy USA in Paris, Kentucky while on a recent lunch break. As she sat in her car scratching it off, she revealed the second-tier price, thinking it was a prank.
“When I saw that, I was like 'this has got to be a prank, this is a joke, this is not real,'” Sears, of Paris, said.
Sears won $7,777.
Sears, who works at a bank, shared her news with her coworkers and family.
“They all thought I was lying," Sears said. "The girls at work said they never win, and I told them – you got to play to win. I play regularly so I knew it was bound to happen.”
After taxes, Sears will receive $5,599.44, and said she plans to use it for college.
“And I want to save some of it for emergencies because being a college student, things do happen, and stuff goes wrong," she said.
Murphy USA in Paris will receive $77.77 for selling the winning ticket.
