LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Nine years have passed since Tommy Ballard, the father of Crystal Rogers, was killed by an unknown shooter while he was hunting on family property.
His murder remains unsolved, and a $50,000 reward is in effect for information leading to the killer.
Ballard was about to go hunting with his son and 12-year-old grandson on the family's property along Ed Brent Lane near the Blue Grass Parkway when he was shot in the chest. His death came about a year and a half after Rogers went missing. He had made it his life's mission to solve his daughter's case.
In July, three men were convicted in connection with Rogers' murder: Brooks Houck, Joseph Lawson and Steve Lawson. Crystal's mother, Sherry Ballard, said the verdict was bittersweet.
"After they said 'Guilty,' my son looked at me and he's like 'Mom, dad should be here.' And that was a very hard moment, you know?"
While no one has been arrested in Tommy Ballard's death, special prosecutor Shane Young said in court that Brooks Houck's brother, Nick Houck, is being investigated for Ballard's murder.
