LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A $1 million Powerball ticket bought in Henry County, Kentucky is about to expire.
In a news release, the Kentucky Lottery said the unclaimed ticket was sold at the Pilot Travel Center in Pendleton, which is just off Interstate 71 north of Louisville.
The ticket was sold on July 19, 2023, when the Powerball jackpot was an estimated $1 billion. The winner has 180 days from the drawing.
The unclaimed ticket officially expires Jan. 15; however, with lottery headquarters observing Martin Luther King Jr. Day Monday, Jan. 15, the holder of the July 19 winning ticket needs to bring it to the Kentucky Lottery Corporate office, 1011 W. Main St. Louisville, Ky. 40202, before 5 p.m. on Jan. 12.
The owner of the unclaimed ticket matched the first five white balls – 7-10-11-13-24 – but didn't match the Powerball 24. That earned them the secondary prize of $1 million.
“It’s rare that someone holding a $1 million Powerball® ticket fails to cash it in,” Kentucky Lottery President Mary Harville said in the news release. “The ticket is expiring in less than two weeks; however, the Lottery is not giving up hope that we will find the owner and award them their prize.”
If the prize is not claimed, the Lottery will return the money to Kentucky’s Unclaimed Prize Fund, which lawmakers designated to support the Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES).
