LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- America’s pastime holds a special place in the lives of many, and on Saturday, baseball fans had a chance to show their appreciation for the sport.

Shriners Children and Kosair for Kids teamed up to give 150 children with physical and developmental challenges from the Miracle League of Louisville the ultimate baseball experience.

It took place at Jim Patterson Stadium at the University of Louisville where players and coaches spent much of the day serving as mentors to the children.

Players took turns batting and running the bases as their parents cheered them on.

"It's something we want to do," said Louisville baseball player Kade Elam. "Come out here and share the experience with these kids and just be able to be their buddy for the day. It's big for the program and big for these kids."

The games raised funds and spread awareness for the international health care system that provides care regardless of the families’ ability to pay.
