LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Members of the University of Louisville basketball team took a break from the court Saturday to give back to the community ahead of Thanksgiving.
The players volunteered at the Community Thanksgiving Celebration at Highland Park Baptist Church.
Along with other volunteers, the team assembled food boxes, handed out turkeys, stuffed backpacks with winter weather gear, and delivered meals to less fortunate members of the community.
U of L forward Ryan Conwell, who grew up attending the church, said his family helped organize the event.
"I definitely love the holidays, not just for the food, but for the time I get to spend with my family and for the chance to bless other families who are less fortunate and may not be able to have a meal with their loved ones," Conwell said. "I am just grateful we have the opportunity to do so."
This was the first year of the event, but Conwell said he plans to work to ensure it continues for years to come.
