LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — There's over a week until Thanksgiving, and several people on Sunday got the meals they need with help from some special guests.

The Superstar Market hosted its annual Thanksgiving Giveaway in NuLu.

Louisville native and retired NFL player DeVante Parker, along with Quincy Riley of the New Orleans Saints, helped pass out food.

Items included turkeys, canned goods and other groceries that were loaded into cars as people drove up.

It's a labor of love for those involved, as many have personal experience with food insecurity.

ā€œIt means a lot to me,ā€ Superstar Market founder Ollie Hinkle said. ā€œI didn’t grow up in the best situation, so doing something like this for the community means a ton to me. To even be in this position is a blessing.ā€

ā€œIt’s just a good thing, and coming back here and supporting Ollie and everything we have going on in Kentucky is good for the community,ā€ Parker said.

More than 150 turkeys were distributed. Organizers said they are trying to grow the event every year and hand out even more food.
