LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A U of L graduate student from Kenya is trying to fly home after his parents were killed in a terrorist attack last weekend.

The university officials say the school gave Komi Kossi $500 out of a special emergency fund, but the flight to Kenya will cost more than $4,000. Others have sent checks and cash, and officials say they hope Kossi can travel as early as Saturday morning.

Komi Kossi released a statement saying, "I would like to thank the faculty and staff at the University of Louisville as well as the Louisville community for their generosity and support.  This is a sad time for myself and my family.  Knowing we have so many friends who are willing to help us diminishes our sorrow.  I thank you all."

Kossi's parents were among at least 67 killed last weekend when terrorists launched an attack at the Westgate Mall in Nairobi, Kenya.

Anyone wishing to donate should contact the Department of Justice Administration at 502-852-6567.

Kossi, who has been at U of L since 2011, is expected to return to his studies in the spring.
