CORYDON, Ind. (WDRB) --If you've been to Corydon, you know it's classic small town Indiana.
There's a pizza shop here, a brewery there.
There's also an old-school pharmacy. It's the type of store that if you're not from southern Indiana, you'll look at the sign and say "what is that?" The pharmacy is called "Butt Drugs."
"We get phone calls asking if it's real," said business owner Katie Butt Beckort.
A lot of people have raised a stink about the name; others make the pharmacy the butt of their jokes.
"I was given this name," Beckort said with a smile.
She is a third-generation Butt. Her grandparents started the pharmacy 63 years ago as "William H. Butt Drugs." Her father continued it as "Butt Rexall Drugs."
Now it's her turn. "When I took over and purchased it from my father, we legally changed it to 'Butt Drugs.' Keeping it simple," Beckort explained.
Their first commercial and jingle that hit the airwaves were the icing on the cake. Today, the shop is known for what's helped make it's name in the beginning: tasty milk shakes, $0.35 coffee, pony rides, a pharmacist that knows your name and prescription pick-up in the store's rear (that's no joke).
It's also kind of a tourist attraction. People travel from all over just to get their "I love Butt Drugs" t-shirts, magnets and hats.
"It's great marketing," Beckort admitted.
The name also keeps "the way it used to be" relevant for a community that loves it.
"It's just part of Corydon," said customer Donna Buchinsky.
There are no ifs, ands or buts about that.
