LOUISVILLE, Ky (WDRB) -- Friday at L&N Cardinal Stadium, Dr. Gerry Bradley took office as UofL’s 20th president.

Bradley previously served as provost, and was hired by the board on the same day it forced out former president Kim Schatzel, several months ago.

The decision sparked controversy because the university did not hold a national search for the position.

Some students and faculty protested during the event, expressing their dissatisfaction with the selection process.

“This is not a celebration of an individual, it is the celebration of the University of Louisville," Bradley said during his inaugural speech.

Bradley also highlighted students he said define the spirit of UofL, praising their leadership, resilience and contributions to campus life.

Tensions remained in the crowd, but Bradley emphasized the importance of student leadership, community engagement and the university’s ongoing mission to support its students.
