LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Supporters of Special Olympics of Kentucky put their strongest team members to the test at UPS Worldport on Saturday.
UPS held its annual Plane Pull as teams competed to raise money for a good cause. The Special Olympics of Kentucky's fundraiser had teams of 20 play tug-of-water with a 155,000 pound UPS 757 cargo plane.
The team to pull the plane at least 12 feet in the shortest amount of time wins the competition. Several of the participants are UPS employees through the company's transitional learning center.
"This is a program that we offer, it is a two-week training program and we bring in individuals with disabilities, train them, and find them a job in the operation at UPS," said Chris Tichenor, UPS Training Supervisor with the Transitional Learning Center.
Since it began in 2014, UPS has trained 627 people in the Transitional Learning Center.
According to a news release, the UPS Plane Pull and Big Brown Truck Pull have raised almost $1.8 million for Special Olympics of Kentucky.
