LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Crews are putting the finishing touches on the Waterfront Park PlayPort.
The parking lot has to be finished and sod needs to be laid out.
The PlayPort will be a free, outdoor experiential learning area for kids of all ages.
It will be the first free and accessible outdoor play destination, and serve as a resource for STEM learning for kids in partnership with the Kentucky Science Center.
The 3-acre play area will have large-scale construction equipment and river-themed artifacts for learning and playing. It will also include a classroom and a community meeting space, restrooms and a parking lot.
It's part of the first phase of the Waterfront Park Westward Expansion Project.
The park is expected to open in late March.
The $50 million expansion project will extend Waterfront Park into the city's west end along the Ohio River to a 22-acre area between 10th and 14th streets.
