Waterfront Park West-PlayPort progress 9-12-24

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Waterfront Park is making headway on its westward expansion project.

Thursday, the park shared progress photos on Facebook of the PlayPort.

The PlayPort will be a free, outdoor experiential learning area for kids of all ages.

It will be the first free and accessible outdoor play destination, and serve as a resource for STEM learning for kids in partnership with the Kentucky Science Center.

The 3-acre play area will have large-scale construction equipment and river-themed artifacts for learning and playing. It will also include a classroom and a community meeting space, restrooms and a parking lot.

It's all part of the first phase of the expansion project, which is expected to be done by the end of the year.

The $50 million expansion project will extend Waterfront Park into the city's west end along the Ohio River to a 22-acre area between 10th and 14th streets.
