LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A local organization hosted a special Christmas Day event to spread holiday joy to people in need.
Wayside Christian Mission hosted its annual Christmas Extravaganza at Hotel Louisville on West Broadway in downtown Louisville. Throughout the day, volunteers helped give out hot meals, coats and gifts to all who attended.
There was also plenty of music and caroling to get people in the holiday spirit, along with a dance party.
Many of the guests who attended are struggling with homelessness. Event organizers said the event is a way to make people feel like family.
"We try to make everybody feel like they're at grandma's for Christmas," said Nina Moseley, Wayside Christian Mission Chief Operating Officer. "It's important to give them that humanity, you're important to the community, you deserve a Christmas just like everyone else."
The event has been held for over 30 years. Wayside Christian Mission plans to grow it every year.
