In partnership with the IRS, Volunteer Income Tax assistance sites will open at regional taxpayer service centers across the commonwealth on Feb. 10. In-person help is offered by appointment on Tuesdays and Thursday through April 10.

Assistance is free for those making under $67,000 a year or any state government employee. For a list of assistance site locations, click here.

The Indiana Department of Revenue will also start accepting state returns Monday.

Officials encourage Hoosiers to wait until Jan. 26 or until they have all required documents to file their state returns.

The state said employers have until Jan. 31 to provide wage statements. Officials said tax returns submitted without proper documents can delay processing and refunds.

The Indiana DOR said using electronic filing, online payments and direct deposit result in faster processing and refund delivery.

Hoosiers can file electronically using online tax vendors through the state's INfreefile program. To learn more, click here. For more information about filing your Indiana state tax return, including a link to check the status of a refund, click here.

Taxpayers needing assistance can use INTIME direct messaging by clicking here. The Indiana DOR said this provides the most efficient service for those who need help.

The deadline to file your 2025 state and federal returns, or pay any taxes that are due, is Wednesday, April 15. Extensions only apply to filing and do not extend the deadline to pay taxes that are due.
