LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The list of prohibited items is a must read for anyone heading to Thunder activities.
Saturday morning when you are getting ready to come down to Thunder and wondering whether to drive or ride your bike, think again.
“Oh really, can't bring a bike," Doug Klaras said. "Well I'm glad I only live or where I'm staying a few blocks away.”
Klaras was drawn outside Friday afternoon by the pre-Thunder practice over the Ohio River.
It's a great day to spend on the Louisville and Jeffersonville waterfront enjoying the people, planes and fireworks.
“Yeah, I heard the jets and came out right after I heard the first jet, ”said Klaras.
He saddled up the his one-speed bike and headed for the river, as a test run for what he had planned to do on Saturday.
“Of course I probably would have figured it out pretty soon and just go back and walk back," said Klaras.
And as tempting as it is to bring your dog down to Thunder, you will have to leave pets at home, although a service animal is allowed.
“It is mainly alcohol, tents you can bring down, blankets,” Gabe Downey, another one taking in the pre-Thunder show along the river, said. “The fireworks are awesome every year."
Downey is veteran of at least 17 Thunder events, and said the Indiana side is a little more relaxed on what you can and cannot bring down to Thunder.
As a general rule, alcohol, glass bottles, grills, tents, tape or rope to save a seating area, skateboards and skates, bikes and drones are on the do not bring to Thunder list.
Most of the do not bring items you will be asked to take it back to your car or dispose of before getting down to the viewing area. One item that can bring a hefty fine is the use of a drone.
The FAA has established a five-mile no-fly zone around the Thunder area on both sides of the river.
Those attempting to fly their drone can face a $10,000 fine and confiscation of their equipment.
