LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Body camera video is raising questions about what led up to a man's arrest at gunpoint at a Louisville high school earlier this month.

The March 4 encounter prompted a brief lockdown at the school. But details described by school officials appear to conflict with what is visible on video.

Body camera footage shows the moment a Jefferson County Public Schools police officer confronts 33-year-old Derrick Mosley just inside the school's entrance shortly after 7:15 a.m. as students were arriving.

"Let me see your hands, let me see your f****** hands, get on your belly, get on your belly," the officer can be heard yelling in the footage.

Mosley is seen holding his hands up as the officer draws his weapon. He then identifies himself as a Central High School parent.

Moments later, he is placed in handcuffs.

"Aye man, what the f*** are you doing here ... it's my daughter," Mosley says.

Police search Mosley and do not find a weapon.

The video also shows how Mosley got inside. JCPS says someone appears to have buzzed him into the building. The doors automatically lock behind him as he enters, and he raises his hand as the officer approaches.

Before that, the officer is heard outside telling him, "Aye my man, hey hey hey, don't walk in that door."

After Mosley is taken into custody, the officer tells dispatch: "I got somebody in custody. He refused to exit the building and bypassed me and ran past me into the school," according to body camera footage.

However, the video does not show Mosley running past the officer. Mosley also disputes that claim on camera.

"No I didn't run in here, what are you talking about? You know I didn't run in here," he says.

According to Mosley's arrest citation, officers were told a "suspicious male subject" was outside the school "exhibiting unusual and concerning behavior." Police wrote that Mosley "ignored the officers commands and abruptly fled, forcing his way through the front entrance and moving toward the schools interior security checkpoint."

Officers said they treated the situation "as a potential active threat within a secured school environment" and drew their weapons because they "could not determine whether he was armed," according to the citation.

In a letter sent to families, Central High School Principal Dr. Tamela Compton said the situation happened "outside of our campus." The letter states a "suspicious individual who attempted to gain entry into the building" was "apprehended and removed from campus."

"Out of an abundance of caution, the campus was briefly placed on lockdown," Compton wrote, adding that "at no time were students or staff harmed."

But the body camera video shows Mosley being held at gunpoint inside the school's entryway — not outside the campus, as described in the letter.

WDRB asked JCPS about that discrepancy. The district did not directly answer.

Mosley is charged with criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct. According to online jail records, he has not yet been released from Louisville Metro Corrections and has pleaded not guilty.

JCPS says it is now reviewing the school's buzzer entry process following the incident.
