Cooper said he took the test four times and worked with an ACT tutor before getting a perfect score.
The requirement will resume with students who apply for Fall 2024 admission to the university.
Midway University will stay test-optional for potential incoming students through next school year.
Drew Siciliano recently aced the ACT with a perfect score of 36.
Applicants will still have to take exams for math and reading to determine placement.
The waiver applies to undergraduate applications for summer and fall 2020.
“It's almost like we're living a dream or watching a movie or kind of in a twilight zone,” said Christine Garnett, who teaches math and computer science at Harrison County High School.
The "test-optional" policy will begin for prospective students who are applying for the 2021-22 academic year.
The institution said that its “test-optional” policy will make college an option for more people, reflects academic research and supports Spalding’s social justice mission.
The affected students can retake the ACT at 8 a.m. Saturday at Spencer County High School.
