The Commonwealth Office of Technology and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet are implementing the changeover to the new technology.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will assume full responsibility later this month of issuing all state driver's license and ID cards.
It marks the 4th location in Louisville with other locations at Bowman Field, Dixie Highway and Hurstbourne.
Kentucky continues transition to regional driver's licensing offices, additional offices to be added
"We've got to stop thinking the traditional way of getting in a car, driving to a local circuit clerk and getting your license issued," said Sarah Jackson, project manager.
The new ID, or other approved identification — like a passport or military ID — will be required to fly.
The cutoff date is now June 30.
Customers with appointments will either be rescheduled or offered services at another branch.
The office at Bowman Field is in a "trial phase," but was accepting applications Friday morning.
State officials plan to launch a network of “regional centers” where people can apply for the credentials, which will be needed to board domestic flights next year unless a traveler has a passport.
The June rollout is scheduled for Franklin County, and two other counties are to be added to the 'pilot program.' Dates for the rest of Kentucky, including Jefferson County, haven't been announced.
