Gov. Mike Braun said maintaining Indiana’s extensive highway system is expensive.

Field crews will begin the first of two deer population surveys this summer in an effort to reduce the wildlife-vehicle crashes and improve highway safety.

The trip on Wednesday was also about cold, hard cash.

TRIP said the average motorist in Louisville pays an additional $1,884 as a result of driving on roads that are deteriorated, are congested or lack desirable safety features.

Kentucky will receive $87.7 million to fix bridges around the state from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Funding can be used to replace, rehabilitate, preserve, protect and construct highway bridges. 

Roundabouts are an option, along with crosswalks and possible turn lanes, though no specific locations or intersections have been focused on yet.

The last of five Intersection Conflict Warning Systems will be turned on Friday on State Road 60 in Clark County.

On Friday, U.S. Transportation Cabinet Secretary Elaine Chao announced that the transportation department has $12 million dollars in funds to help repair the bridge. 

Officials with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet closed the state Route 44 at the Spencer/Anderson county line on Friday after deeming it "unsafe for the traveling public."
