On paper, the new rule says the homeless in Shepherdsville will be fined for illegal camping. But, the mayor and council, despite passing it, say they won't be fined.
The homeless were notified on Wednesday.
The sign was posted on Thursday, giving the homeless in the area until March 23, 2023 to vacate the area for clean up.
Councilwoman Nicole George (D-21) is one of the sponsors of an ordinance that she says "cleans up" an existing ordinance centered around camping in Louisville parks and blocking public ways.
The city's outdoor space for it's homeless community now has plumbing and electricity, but a specific opening date has not been set.
Over the next 72 hours, homeless outreach volunteers will help camp residents find services.
"This is not all that bad."
The camp is on the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet property.
A councilman's proposal would require the city conduct a risk assessment before clearing a camp.
She said the ultimate goal is to get people into permanent housing.
