Kentucky’s death toll from last month’s deadly winter storm has risen to 22.
The death of a 32-year-old woman in Fayette County County due to the winter weather brought the total number to 12.
Gov. Andy Beshear said the federal funding freeze has affected state programs like Medicaid, the Appalachian Regional Commission, and the Abandoned Mined Lands program.
His selection sets up Beshear to play a lead role in candidate recruitment, messaging and fundraising for 2026.
Beshear followed up on social media later in the morning and said he is dedicated to being governor.
His son and current Governor Andy Beshear said in a social media post Thursday his father got into a single-car accident Wednesday morning.
Gov. Beshear will travel to Japan and the Republic of Korea to meet with leaders of companies already operating in Kentucky, and businesses looking to invest in the U.S.

The Associated Press called the race for Beshear shortly before 9 p.m. EST. He was leading challenger Daniel Cameron, the GOP candidate and state attorney general.
Jones served first as Lt. Gov. and then governor from 1991 to 1995.
