Shawn “Mickey” Stines' departure from the Letcher County sheriff position after a long career in law enforcement was described as a retirement by one of his attorneys.

Librarian Tessa Caudill said one branch is six months away from reopening, and the system is just now starting to work with FEMA.

It's launching in 11 counties, including Oldham County. 

Gov. Andy Beshear said Friday that most of the debris left from the flooding ended up in creeks and streams.

Members of the University of Kentucky cheerleading team donated a full set of uniforms to Letcher County High School when they saw the devastating flooding that hit the region.

National Guard soldiers rushed to distribute bottled water to flood-ravaged eastern Kentucky as forecasters warned of more rain coming to the region.

"And for all the volunteers here, thank you, god bless you," Pike County Judge-Executive Ray Jones said. "We couldn't do this without you"

The new buses are expected to emit 98 percent less particulate matter and 90 percent less nitrogen oxide than the older buses.
