Now Passport and Anthem, which both had lost their contract under Bevin, can submit new bids.
Sexton Smith was elected in 2016, and her term ends Dec. 31, 2020.
"As we work through our plan to return Passport to solid financial footing, this is a difficult but necessary step," the organization said.
Medicaid payments are set to go up April 1. Passport Health Plan says it's "evaluating" the proposed changes.
“They are a very poorly run operation," Bevin said of the nonprofit Louisville-area Medicaid provider.
Friday, Passport said it has had to make "severe" cuts in order to stay afloat.
This new development joins about $1 billion worth of investment in west Louisville by companies like Passport Health Plan and YMCA.
