In a letter dated Friday and posted to the school’s Facebook page, Wilkerson Elementary Principal Sara Alvey said the new school on Johnsontown Road, which twice failed building inspections mostly because of roofing issues, received a temporary certificate of occupancy and would open for classes Sept. 12.
Wilkerson Elementary classes have been held inside the former Watson Lane Elementary building since the 2022-23 school year began Aug. 10.
More than 540 students at Indian Trail Elementary will walk into a brand new, $16.5 million building when the 2022-23 school year begins Wednesday.
JCPS Superintendent Marty Pollio said at Tuesday's Jefferson County Board of Education meeting that the building would undergo a second inspection after failing an inspection Friday, potentially jeopardizing whether the $17 million school will be ready when classes begin Aug. 10.
The new school on Johnsontown Road is expected to open in August 2022.
The exterior renderings aren't final, but they provide an early glimpse of how the middle school and three elementary schools are taking shape.
