LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Racing Louisville FC is locking down one of its brightest stars for the long haul.

Forward Emma Sears — already the club’s single-season scoring record-holder and a rising talent with the U.S. Women’s National Team — has signed a new multi-year contract that will keep her in lavender through the 2028 season.

In just her second year as a pro, Sears has turned Lynn Family Stadium into her personal showcase. With 10 goals and an assist, she’s tied for third in the NWSL in total goal contributions — and the only Racing player to start every match this season.

She's racking up the honors, too. Goal of the Week for her rocket from distance against Utah. Player of the Week nominee after a dazzling two-goal road show at North Carolina. And perhaps most importantly, she’s become a player Louisville fans rally behind.

“I’m so proud to be continuing my career with Racing Louisville FC — a club and city that have truly become home for me,” Sears said. “We’ve built something special here. I’m excited to keep pushing for championships and making Louisville proud.”

The 24-year-old winger’s rise hasn’t been limited to the NWSL. Sears has earned eight caps with the U.S. Women’s National Team, including a standout debut last fall where she became just the fourth player in USWNT history to record both a goal and an assist in her first match — a 3-1 win over Iceland. She followed that with a start against Ireland this summer, setting up the opening goal.

“Emma’s growth has been tremendous,” Racing head coach Bev Yanez said. “She brings consistency, drive, and leadership to the pitch every time out. We’re thrilled to have her locked in as a key part of our core moving forward.”

Originally drafted 28th overall out of Ohio State in 2024, Sears wasted no time making her presence felt — notching five goals in her rookie campaign and quickly becoming one of the league’s top young finishers. This season, she’s taken another leap, becoming the focal point of Racing’s attack and the club’s all-time leading scorer in just two seasons.

“In her two years here, Emma has become a cornerstone of our club,” Racing general manager Caitlyn Flores Milby said. “She represents everything we’re building — hungry, talented, and invested in Louisville. Securing her long-term was a top priority.”

Before becoming a pro, Sears carved out a stellar career at Ohio State, ranking among the top 12 in program history in goals, points, and shots. She grew up in Dublin, Ohio, after stops in New Jersey, England, and California.

But she has made herself at home in Louisville, and she's just getting started. Just days after earning the franchise's first win at North Carolina, the club will go for another first.

Racing Louisville is set to take on Chicago at Lynn Family Stadium on Friday night. A win would secure the franchise's first-ever playoff berth. The game kicks off at 7:30.
