OLDHAM COUNTY, Ky. (WDRB) — First-year Oldham County Football Coach Jamie Reed has breathed new life into the Colonel's football program. The team is 3-0 and averaging 40 points per game. At the core of it all, the team's motto: Earn it.

"Coach Reed's really been pushing the 'Earn It' motto," Lincoln Wolfe, offensive lineman, said. "We have a big sign up in front of our door that we all make sure to hit before we come out to the field. You don't hit it if you're not ready to put your body and everything out for the win or for practice to do everything to the best of your ability."

The Colonels have found great success on the ground this season running the triple option.

"No one knows where the ball is," quarterback Drew Dees said. "That triple option definitely confuses a lot of teams. Definitely helps us out as well."

For Coach Reed, his coaching comes from his youth in Texas and watching iconic coaches.

"I grew up in Texas in the early 70s or late 70s, early 80s, and everybody in Texas ran the wishbone," Coach Reed said. "Everybody near Texas ran the wishbone. I was a big Notre Dame fan, still am, and Lou Holtz and all those guys used to run the option. I used to coach a team that passed the ball all the time, and we didn't win any games. I said, if I ever become a Head Coach, we're going to run the football.

"We ran the option and have had some success with it. I'm glad these guys are starting to buy in because it's an offense that's not really sexy. People want to throw the ball, shotgun, all that stuff, but if you look historically, we've averaged about four or five touchdowns a game running our offense."

Dees doesn't just beat opponents on the ground — among the three games, Dees has nearly 300 yards and six passing touchdowns.

Oldham County will meet its biggest test thus far on Friday night, against fellow 3-0 team, Martha Lane Collins at 7:30 p.m.
