LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Mitchell, Indiana, native qualified for a pole position in NASCAR's "Great American Race" Sunday.

Chase Briscoe, 30, qualified earlier this week during time trials for the Daytona 500 by winning a pole position. This is Briscoe's and Toyota's first Daytona 500 pole.

Briscoe, who drives No. 19, moved to Joe Gibbs Racing this season when Stewart-Haas Racing closed at the end of last year.

Jimmie Johnson and Martin Truex Jr. were the only other drivers to lock their position into NASCAR's season opener.

Briscoe now lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, since 2014.

The 67th Daytona 500 is Sunday, Feb. 16 on WDRB with the pregame starting at 12:30 p.m., and the race starting at 2:30 p.m.
